Report on Demonstrations: February, 25, 2011
NB: ** refers to more global decisions/tasks
Elliptic Curves:
- -placement of citation/ discuss later -for writing examples, use:
<span class="formexample">e.g. 389 or 389a </span> and format appropriately
Searching:
- -refine search page should be in one table and put form fields into the table -make fields for rank/torsion order of appropriate size/width -make table less wide (Harald set it in global code) -put link back home or breadcrumbs and include template -put headings of table flush left
On Homepage:
- -properties will be in table (string or list) -cannot introduce carriage returns into LaTeX -add "less" as well as "more" -move download button -order of \Sha instead of Sha_an -use LaTeX for Sha -move sage par magma and give instructions "e.g., show commands"
Todo:
- add torsion structure to database itself
**General:
- put breadcrumbs at top and move title to bottom of banner.
** Use <h1>title</h1>
and <div> stuff </div>
** Use LaTeX only when needed
** Are pages of fixed width or not?
** Make font colour of examples in grey: 80% size and italics
** Have one universal box/field that allows you to search the entire
- database/website. (big dream see Amazon; choose by "department")
** 'search by' should be able to accept labels/words in search box
**Make Stefan's plots 3-d and rotatable.
Number Fields:
On navigation:
- "Learn more about" add space on left column [something for global style?]
- change to "Jump to a Specific Field" [done: it says "Go to a specific field"]
- move Browse to top [done]
L-functions
Mainpage:
- -By Values doesn't work yet -add spaces between Riemann Dirichlet etc
On Homepage:
- -Properties need some work -problem with Dirichlet series running into Properties box
- (problems with Chrome/Safari)
- i.e., Other Properties, etc.
Todo:
- do characters properly: add "learn more about how they are numbered.
Degree 4 Page:
- -click on dot to get top L-function -make types have link to section of page -fix R to be correct format -make graphs more visible -encode information in colour choices -add "click on the dots" instructions -provide lists that you can browse by (from plots)
**Labelling of characters (ref. Gonzalo concern)
Hilbert Modular Forms
- -work in progress; substantial improvement -will work with L-function people to pass the data to make L-fcn -allow Qsqrt5 instead of 2.2.5.1 in Field option -will have "learn about" note about ideal notation -remove * from 2*w in Level display -The "+" in the URL may cause problems; need to encode correctly. -Change URL so that 2.2.5.2 to be QSqrt5 -e.g. will be made uniform -move Browse to top
**Need to decide where in URL to put Hilbert Modular Forms after
- /ModularForm/GL2/?
** Toggle between between dense descriptor and English description according to personal preference.
Continuation of ***** Meeting Friday, February 25, 2011
**New banner with no coloured title
Classical Modular Forms
Holomorphic Modular Cuspforms Mainpage: >> arrows at end of list are well-received
- -Change isogony class to more suitable name
to Galois orbit (actually remove this search field) **Should Galois orbit be a search field? or a lower-level refinement OR "Jump Directly To" option (NO: bad idea)
- -Introduce dimension of Galois Orbit search field. -Put weight before level? on same line? -Create a label scheme for weight-2, trivial character only
now and then implement JUMP TO option by label (Will evaluate later)
- -remove # mark from URL or remove ? -should there be a check box for character instead of
drop-down menu
- -change to uniform example class -move SEARCH button to make more uniform -make examples of Level smaller to reduce probability of crashing -remove "modular" from title -Replace cuspform with "cusp form"
On Level 1, Weight 12:
- -make '1' link more visible.
Suggest that put in table with coloured background, and can click on entire rectangle. Add another line and instructions "link to page"
- -"List of S_10(9,\chi) needs to be modified -make n be 'number of character' reference -include a "learn about" section on left to describe
notation.
- -make last entry in table be "Dimension of S_10(9,\chi)"
and clean up "List of S_10(9,\chi)"
- -some links can take several minutes to load
On Homepage:
- -display on q-expansion is not needed (cumbersome)
** Set up server so that if request takes longer than a pre-set time, e.g., 1 min., it stops. (may be at the Apache level)
Siegel Modular Forms
Doesn't look like other pages
Wide margin left of buttons
Need to introduce "browse" and "search"
Make each category as a special header, and make in format <h2> category 1 </h2> and then <div></div> format
maybe model after L-function: put collections together e.g., browse by type There are 3 or 4 types (refer to Nathan) (using not too much vertical space)
Could use drop-down list for each category (i.e. search within collection)
Some of the bibliographic information could be on the left margin or "Learn about" section
Could add "Search" button on first page by: weight, level, ... and then filter on one of the available collections. Could also specify lifts/nonlifts, eisen, ... Nils will made a non-functioning "Search" page on main page.
Format to current standard
Navigation Page: When clicking on one of the categories: The explanatory information below available form could be placed in link on left column.
Make tables look like Dimensions table with zeroes removed and make all the entries in table links. No links where there is no data.
Allow for option of ">=1" etc. (ref. Gonzalo suggestion)
Put paramodular form title in navigation page and put table in standard table template.Move download to body of homepage, near where the relevant information is contained.
Move "About the Generators" link to right of "As polynomial in generators"
LaTeX the expression in "About the Generators"
Enter Hecke eigenvalues into standard table format
Mention that table is "GL(2) reduced...?" (ref. Nathan)
For cusp forms remove "zeroes"; change column title to read "- disc(T)" or whatever experts agree upon. Will do the right thing.
Introduce T in the explanatory note about Sp(4,Z) page.
Quote of the Day:
- "We are not going to discuss shades of grey."
